Today in my public speaking class, two kids walked in–one after the other–and I did a double take. Why? They looked exactly the same. (And no they weren’t twins. I’m not stupid, thanks.)
It got me thinking: maybe all those conformist haters and conspiracy theorists have a point. A very loose and non-aliens-are-invading-the-planet point, but a point all the same. College is making us turn into one another. Literally! I get the whole “peer pressure” thing can guide individuals into adopting the same styles and actions as the people around them, but I’m talking about doppelganging.
Yes, I did just make that a verb.
I swear it’s happening. There were two sets of guys in my class who could have passed as twins–or, more likely, brothers–and I’m telling you it was starting to freak me out.
This is what happens. The man puts us all together on a campus and expects us to learn while cloning us and creating identical morphs. Okay, so I just made that up. (Really I just wanted to say ‘the man’ in a sentence. 70’s shout-out!) But I guess it could happen. All I’m saying is that I kind of understand where the conspiracy theorists are coming from. Not that I agree. Except for the Loch Ness Monster. She’s totally real.
And I do realize that this post is making me sound like a complete crazy person. I think it’s time for a nap.
