Hey there, my name is Katelyn and I’m the head writer here at Ultimately Useless Stories. Of course, by head writer, I mean the only writer. My dog Ghost is also here, but he doesn’t write. He does provide the whine-chatter-bark soundtrack I frequently write to, so I guess you can say he’s part-time Creative Director.
My educational and professional backgrounds are in writing and editing, and my current day job is using these skills to broaden awareness for our environment.
I write this blog for shits and giggles.
The History of This Site
The Ultimately Useless Stories domain used to be home to my personal blog throughout high school and early college, titled “The Ultimately Useless Stories of an Average Teenager.” If you’ve been around since then, holy shit——hi friend!
While I’ve now privated all of my old posts because they’re no longer relevant to my life or a reflection of my current writing ability, the original blog served me well as a place to share my creative endeavors, even if the only eyes ever laid on them were my own.
I can look back on my old pieces fondly (with no small amount of secondhand embarrassment) and acknowledge that pushing them out into the universe fueled me to keep at it. I’m hoping to create a similar space again, where I can be in conversation with myself and others about topics that interest me, writing excerpts… whatever.
Whether you’re popping in for a short visit or along for the ride, welcome. I hope you enjoy these stories. Or don’t. Whatever floats your boat——I promise it’s not that serious. Writing doesn’t have to be. Sometimes, it can just be useless.
